HUGE FIRE breaks out next to Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium hours before Preston clash

A huge blaze of fire has broken out next to St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton just hours before the team’s clash against Preston North End.

The Saints are set to take on Preston at St Mary’s tonight at 7:45 in a huge Championship clash as they push for an automatic promotion place.

Southampton currently sit in 4th place, 8 points behind Ipswich Town who occupy the final automatic promotion place.

Preston on the other hand are fighting for the final play-off spot as they currently sit in 9th, but the match tonight is already in serious doubt after a raging fire broke out next to St Mary’s Stadium.

The blaze started from an industrial estate opposite the stadium as smoke was pouring over the North Stand.

The fire service have released a photograph of the burning building.

The Police will continue to monitor the situation and decide whether tonight’s game will go ahead or not in due course.

You can see the footage below:

People in the area surrounding St Mary’s Stadium have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke from the fire.

The flames seemed to have began in an industrial building and fire marshals on site were telling people to evacuate the stadium as the blaze grew stronger.
