Gary Neville says Man United will NOT make Premier League top 5 this season!

Gary Neville has said that his former club Man United will NOT make top 5 in the Premier League this season, following their last ditch win over Brentford at the weekend.

It is certainly no secret that the Red Devils have gotten off to their worst season start in 34 years, with recent losses to Tottenham, Arsenal, Brighton, and Crystal Palace seeing them cling on to a top half position in the table by just a single point over 11th place Chelsea.

Their most recent outing in the English top flight looked set to be another afternoon of disappointment, with United trailing 1-0 to Brentford for over an hour, running into extra time at Old Trafford.

Scottish international Scott McTominay saved the day for the struggling club, finding the roof of the net in the 93rd and 97th minutes to secure what could turn out to be a vital 3 points for Man United.

The club’s former right-back turned pundit, Gary Neville, gave praise to McTominay’s rescue mission on Saturday afternoon, but he has said that he still doesn’t believe his club will secure a top 5 position in the Premier League this season.

“I don’t think Manchester United will finish in the top five this season… but they proved me wrong last season after having a very poor start,” said Neville on The Gary Neville Podcast.

He continued by saying “I felt sorry for Brentford because I like them a lot. But it was huge.”

“Huge in the sense of it had been such a depressing start to the season and by no stretch of the imagination does beating Brentford at home with two goals in the 93rd and 97th minutes mean that everything is ok. Far from it. It’s a mess.”

Neville praised Scott McTominay’s incredible 15-minute contribution on Saturday, saying “I was happy for Scott McTominay” … “That’s one kid who would run through a brick wall for the club”

Neville also added that he believes one of the Premier League’s other struggling giants, Chelsea, may have a better chance of placing themselves in a top 5 position by the end of the season.

“Chelsea are probably near to it [the top five] if they can just go on a run because they have got some really talented young players. Their age is a lot better than the Manchester United squad.”

“Chelsea are not far away if they get a centre-forward and centre-half. Even though they’ve spent £1bn they still need two players.”

Gary Neville to join DRAGON’S DEN!

Man United will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United, with fans hoping that they take their winning ways (and Scott McTominay!) with them!
