A Millwall football thug has been banned for 3 years following a fight in Hull in which he was found guilty of punching a man on Anlaby Road in Hull.
Following a hearing at Hull Magistrates Court on June the 6th, 31-year-old John Cornford has been issued with a 3-year football banning order. His offence took place on April the 10th, when Millwall travelled to play Hull in the EFL Championship.
A fight allegedly broke out between Milwall and Hull fans, but it was Cornford who would be found guilty of punching another man in the face during the altercation.
The defendant plead guilty to the public order offences, as well as possession of cannabis and failure to attend court. He was issued with an £85 fine plus a victim surcharge of £114, and was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work alongside his 3-year UK football banning order.
Humberside Police’s dedicated football officer, PC Wilson said in an interview “The result here shows that it is not just our home supporters who get investigated for football related offences.”
“It sends a strong message that if away fans commit offences at football matches in our force area, Humberside Police will investigate and seek to issue Football Banning Orders where appropriate.”
