Sheffield United boss could face FA reprimand over referee rant!

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom could face a reprimand from the FA following his blasting rant against officials during the Blades match against Tottenham on Saturday.

Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United looked set to secure 3 vital away points at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Gustavo Hamer’s stunning 73rd minute strike separating the sides at the 90 minute mark.

As is now the case in many Premier League matchups, a whopping chunk of added time was sanctioned – in this case an additional 12 minutes.

Heckingbottom’s side remained steadfast for the first two thirds of this added time allocation, but were stung by struggling Tottenham star Richarlison 8 minutes into the 12.

The Brazilian forward scored a true striker’s goal – powering a header into the roof of the net from a well delivered corner to the front post of Sheffield United’s goal.

Richarlison’s afternoon would become even brighter just 2 minutes later when he provided an assist for Kulusevski to send another stunning strike into the back of Wes Foderingham’s net to take Tottenham ahead with just 4 minutes to spare.

Things would go from bad to worse for Sheffield United during the remaining minutes of an additional time period that was laden with time wasting and bookings – including a second yellow card for Oliver McBurnie in the final minute of the match.

After the match, Sheffield United boss Heckingbottom unleashed a tirade of insults towards referee Peter Bankes’ management of the game, calling his officiating “bonkers” and “appalling”.

Heckingbottom said in a post-match interview “I know how little they know about football. I am not moaning about decisions, it is game management, understanding the game.”

“Appalling, appalling, that is what I told him after the game. Absolutely appalling. I bet Spurs will say the same.”

“It’s my opinion, others may disagree. I get concerned where the game is going, it is not me moaning about Sheffield United, it is me moaning about football. I watch it all the time. I am watching all the games. Where I tear my hair out is that I don’t know what decisions are being given.”

In regards to McBurnie’s second yellow card, given for telling Bankes that someone had pulled his shirt, Heckingbottom said “He’s bonkers”.
