French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu grabbed the headlines for his goal in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in a pre-season fixture played at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday. However, he also caught attention for another moment in the encounter.
Inter grabbed the lead in the 26th minute through Marcus Thuram who fired a powerful shot beyond the reach of Robert Sánchez after he collected a pass from Joaquin Correa.
The Blues came close to finding the equalizer through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu and Christopher Nkunku’s acrobatic efforts but none breached Inter’s goal.
It was substitute Ugochukwu who grabbed the equalizer on the stroke of the regulation time as the midfielder smashed a low shot into the net to ensure Chelsea avoided a first defeat at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca.
While the French youth international grabbed the headlines for the equalizer, a fan quickly identified him sleeping on the bench in the encounter.
Just like he has done for most of his stay with Chelsea, he came on as a substitute for Malo Gusto in the 80th minute and ended up being his side’s saviour for the second time.
The 20-year-old also grabbed the equalizer for the Blues in their first pre-season fixture against Wrexham which makes him one of the top performers for the West London side during their pre-season fixtures.
There is still uncertainty regarding his future as it has been reported that Chelsea are open to sending him on loan with Everton being linked with him as they seek a replacement for the departed Amadou Onana.
