Chelsea Make Contact Over Emiliano Martinez Transfer

Chelsea are looking at Emiliano Martinez.

Football Post understands Chelsea have made contact with the Aston Villa goalkeeper’s representatives as they consider a possible move for the Argentina international.

Martinez, 33, is thought to be available for transfer this summer, with Villa having already brought in Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma for around £30m earlier this month.

That has opened the door for Martinez to leave Villa Park, and Chelsea are now keeping a close eye on the situation. 👀

Chelsea and Villa could do more business

Interestingly, this could be another deal between the two clubs.

Chelsea and Villa have done plenty of business in recent years, including the huge £117m deal that saw Morgan Rogers move to Stamford Bridge.

Alejandro Garnacho has also gone the other way, joining Villa on an initial loan deal.

And Nicolas Jackson could be next.

Villa are interested in the Chelsea striker, who is valued at around £65m, and a move would see him reunite with Unai Emery.

So there could be a lot more movement between these two clubs before the window closes.

Why Martinez is available

Martinez’s position at Villa has changed following the arrival of Suzuki.

The Argentine has been one of Villa’s biggest personalities and has played a huge part in their recent rise, but the club are now prepared to listen to offers for the 33-year-old.

Martinez has also attracted interest from Juventus this summer, although their move eventually fell apart because of concerns over a finger injury.

Chelsea are now considering whether to make their own move.

For Chelsea, Martinez would bring huge experience, leadership and plenty of big-game know-how.

He is a World Cup winner with Argentina and has spent years playing at the highest level.

For Villa, meanwhile, selling Martinez would mark the end of a memorable chapter.

But with Suzuki already through the door and several other deals being discussed with Chelsea, Martinez could be the latest big name to leave Villa Park.
