Arda Guler: Real Madrid set to sign ‘Turkish Messi’

In the world of football, comparisons to legendary players have become a common occurrence.

Young talents with exceptional dribbling skills and a low centre of gravity are often labelled as the next Lionel Messi.

However, many have failed to live up to the hype surrounding such comparisons. The likes of Sardar Azmoun, Marko Marin, and Ryan Gauld have fallen short of the expectations set upon them.

But now, a new name has emerged, giving hope that he may transcend the comparisons and forge his own illustrious path. Meet Arda Guler, the man dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi.’

At just 18 years old, Arda Guler possesses the remarkable talent that has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

From the moment he made his debut for Fenerbahce’s first team, it was evident that Guler had prodigious abilities.

Barcelona, Messi’s former club, openly expressed their interest in the young talent, even sending their sporting director, Deco, to negotiate a deal. However, it appears that Guler has chosen a different path, opting to join their fierce rivals, Real Madrid.

What has truly captured the interest of potential suitors, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Paris St-Germain, and Premier League clubs Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle, is the reported release clause of just £15 million.

Guler’s journey began when he made his senior debut at the age of 16, coming off the bench in the 66th minute of Fenerbahce’s 1-0 victory over HJK Helsinki in a Europa League qualifying game on August 19, 2021.

On his Super Lig debut, he provided an assist, and shortly after turning 17, he became Fenerbahce’s youngest-ever league goalscorer in a 5-2 win against Alanyaspor on March 13, 2022.

Why ‘Turkish Messi’?

In just 1,187 minutes of Super Lig action, Guler has already contributed seven goals and seven assists, averaging a goal action every 85 minutes.

This remarkable feat highlights his exceptional ability to make an impact on the game at such a young age.

The fact that he was entrusted with the coveted number 10 shirt at Fenerbahce this season speaks volumes about his rapid rise and established credentials.

Previously worn by esteemed players such as Tuncay Sanli, Robin van Persie, Mesut Ozil, and Alex, a club legend, the number 10 shirt holds great significance at Fenerbahce.
