QUIZ: Name the LAST 10 World Cup top goal scorers!

With Holland’s Memphis Depay & England’s Harry Kane each entering this year’s World Cup tournament as top scorers in the qualifying sessions, with 12 goals a piece, we take a look back at some of the footballing heroes who have earned the mantle of top goal scorer in the previous 10 World Cups.

The record for most goals scored in a single World Cup tournament is currently held by Frenchman, Just Fontaine. His 13 goals achieved across 6 games set the bar for strikers worldwide, all the way back in 1958!

German striker, Miroslav Klose, holds the record for most goals scored in the World Cup (total), with 16 to his name from 24 matches played. This number won’t be raised until somebody else takes his mantle, with the prolific German frontman retiring from International football in 2014, after Germany’s 4th World Cup victory.

As it stands, the closest candidates to take Klose’s title are probably Brazil’s Neymar Jr e England’s Harry Kane – each with 6 goals and still playing for their national teams. That is unless megastars Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi produce the tournament of their lives at this year’s World Cup, which could very well be each man’s last – with Ronaldo turning 38 in the coming year, and Messi 36. Ronaldo currently lays claim to 7 goals in 17 matches in the World Cup, and Messi 6 goals in 19 outings.
