Erling Haaland was on the scoresheet again when Manchester City defeated Chelsea 2-0 in their opening Premier League fixture and has recorded a milestone that will humble Chelsea and Manchester United fans.

The Norwegian striker gave the defending champions the lead in the 18th minute, skipping past the Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill tackles before tucking the ball home.

Six minutes before the end of the 90th-minute mark, Mateo Kovačić put the game beyond his former club with a magnificent effort, gliding past Chelsea’s expensive signings Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández before unleashing a shot past Robert Sanchez.

After scoring against Chelsea today, Haaland has notched 13 Premier League goals in August which is more than both the Blues and Manchester United have managed since the arrival of the Norwegian in the 2022/2023 campaign, according to OptaJoe

In his debut season, he chipped in nine goals in August which included two hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

He scored three last term, having scored a brace against Burnley and a goal against Sheffield United before scoring another against Chelsea today. He could add to his tally in Manchester City’s remaining fixtures this month. 

Haaland has been a menace since his arrival and has broken many records, including the most goals scored in a season and the quickest to score five hat tricks in Premier League history.

The 24-year-old has won the Golden Boot in the past two seasons and is the favourite to win it for a record third consecutive campaign.
