Chelsea have been told to sign a record-breaking striker following their loss to Manchester City in their Premier League opener on Sunday evening at the Stamford Bridge.
Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovačić ensured Enzo Maresca started his reign as the Blues’ boss with a loss and Manchester City began their title defence with a victory.
While trailing by a goal, Chelsea had the chance to restore parity through Nicolas Jackson who was unmarked inside the penalty area but the Senegalese forward couldn’t place his attempt into the net.
Such was the story of the home side yet again as they failed to maximize their opportunities and despite having higher expected goals than the Citizens, they couldn’t find the back of the net.
A popular Chelsea fan Alex Goldberg wrote on X
“It’s a totally different game if we finish one of our chances earlier on. Our team out there right now is completely brand new to each other and many knackered.”
“Get Osimhen. Scoring goals changes the temperature of games.”
Chelsea have been linked with the Nigerian striker who broke the record for most goals scored by an African player in the Serie A, all summer but can’t afford to pay his release clause and his huge wages.
They have proposed a loan plus buy option deal but the striker isn’t ready to join on such terms and is not ready to reduce his wages to facilitate a move to the Premier League.
With a few days before the end of the transfer window, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea will be able to strike a deal with Napoli for the world-class forward.
