WATCH: Mo Salah targeted by pitch invaders during Egypt vs Sierra Leone

Liverpool star Mo Salah was targeted by pitch invaders during Egypt’s World Cup Qualifier with Sierra Leone yesterday.

The matchup between the two African sides took place on Matchday 2 of 10, which saw Salah’s side finish 2-0 up in a fiery exchange to qualify for the 2026 FIFA tournament.

The game was hosted at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Liberia.

A brace from Trézéguet in the 18th and 62nd minutes was enough for Egypt to claim victory over Sierra Leone, but their opposition wouldn’t let things go without a fight.

Sierra Leone saw 2 of their players sent off during the match, which shockingly was not the most surprising display of antipathy on that particular afternoon.

Tyrese Fornah was dismissed in the 39th minute, with Abdul Jarju Kabia joining him in the 9th added minute of stoppage time at the end of the game.

Despite all of the fireworks on the pitch during this clash, it was individuals who were not supposed to be present on the playing field that took the biscuit for shock value when it came to behaviour.

During the final few minutes of the official 90, pitch invaders from Sierra Leone’s support found their way on to the pitch and made a beeline for Liverpool & Egypt’s poster boy, Salah.

Masses of security took pursuit of the invaders and could be seen throwing punches as well as attempting to restrain the crazed fans, who very nearly got a hold of Salah.

A melee ensues as his teammates try and create a barricade with security to stop the assailants reaching Liverpool’s star, which resulted in altercations between other Egyptian players and the unwelcome guests.

Following the harrowing disruption from the pitch invaders, Salah and his teammates were escorted by Military guard back to the tunnel and away from the rising tempers of fans in the stadium.

This most recent ordeal for the Liverpool man comes off the back of his becoming Egypt’s all time top scorer in their dominating 6-0 victory over Djibouti in their opening game of Group A.

2023 World Cup to be held over 3 Continents!

The African nation continued their perfect start to their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, with the actions of those very small minority of fans being the only marring of their achievement on the day.

The two nations are set to play their second qualifying fixture with one another on the 24th of March in 2025 – hopefully giving fans some time to cool off before their next meeting.
