New Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has joined the exclusive list of active footballers who own a football club.

Kylian Mbappe is now a majority shareholder of French lower division side Caen who had wanted to grab his signature before he joined Monaco in 2015.

The acquisition has been done through Interconnected Ventures investment arm, Coalition Capital who was announced as the club’s new investor.

According to reports, Coalition Capital will invest around £17m in the French club and have also agreed to relinquish the responsibility of repaying some of its debt.

Mbappé is taking over from American Investment Fund who held the majority of the club’s shares stated to be 80% while the remaining shares are owned by Pierre Antoine Capton.

As a part of the new restructuring process, Caen are expected to appoint a new club President soon with Mbappé’s close friend Ziad Hammoud expected to occupy the position.

The French outfit have had tumultuous history and have spent the majority of their time in the lower divisions though spent five consecutive seasons in the Ligue 1 between 2014 and 2019 when they got relegated.

They currently play in the Ligue 2 and will be hoping that their fortune changes with the arrival of Mbappé.

The France international has now joined Jamie Vardy (Colchester United), Wilfried Zaha (Croydon Athletic), and Sadio Mane (Bourges Foot 18) as the current players with football club ownership.
