Bayern Munich announces Vincent Kompany as new manager

Bayern Munich have officially announced former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany as their new manager.

The former Burnley boss emerged as a shock candidate for the prestigious role at the Allianz Arena and when asked about the interest, he said he was ‘surprised but flattered by it’.

The 38 year-old couldn’t quite save Burnley from Premier League relegation after finishing 19th but there were many positives to take away from the campaign.

After leaving Manchester City in 2019, Vincent Kompany went on the become a player manager at Belgian Pro League side, Anderlecht.

Now the former Belgium star faces his biggest test yet, he joins the Bayern hot seat where nothing but top results are sufficient.

He replaces Thomas Tuchel who did not manage to win the expected Bundesliga title, finishing 2nd to Bayer Leverkusen.
