Liverpool defender on loan at Blackburn sent off after being bitten by opponent

Liverpool loanee Owen Beck was sent off despite being bitten as Blackburn Rovers were held to a barren draw by Preston North End in the English Championship fixture played at Deepdale on Sunday.

Beck is on loan with Blackburn and has featured in two games before the fixture.

The encounter was a highly tense one, with Preston having lost a man in the first half as Sam Greenwood was given his marching orders three minutes before the end of the first half of normal regulation time.

Less than a minute to the end of the normal regulation time, Preston forward Milutin Osmajic fell after a tussle with Todd Cantwell and Yuki Ohashi.

Preston players requested a free kick, but that led to a heated exchange as they started dragging the ball with their Rovers counterparts.

During the skirmish, North End midfielder Duane Holmes fell to the floor, landing on Becks’ outstretched leg, who had been bitten by Osmajic, an incident which was missed by the camera.

He protested to the referee about the incident, but to the surprise of everyone, referee Matt Donohue gave him a red card while Osmajic was awarded a yellow card though it later became clear that he was sent off for his role in the melee.

After the game, Rovers head coach John Eustace expressed his displeasure towards Donohue for giving Beck a red card.

The FA have swung into action by investigating the incident, and Osmajic could be sanctioned heavily if found guilty.
