Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Andros Townsend has become clubless despite having just signed a deal with Antalyaspor due to a Fifa sanction imposed on the Turkish side.
After struggling to make an impact with Tottenham, he left the club in 2016 to join Newcastle United and spent five seasons with the Tynesiders before joining Crystal Palace and then Everton
The 33-year-old plied his trade with Luton Town last season and couldn’t prevent the Hatters from getting relegated, a season after their return to the Premier League.
He made 32 appearances in the Premier League last term, scoring just once but provided three assists, two of which were against Manchester City and Arsenal.
The England international joined Luton last summer after ending his two-year association with Everton but decided to end his stay with the former club just after a season, no thanks to their demotion to the Championship.
Townsend just inked a deal with Antalyaspor but due to the Fifa ban imposed on the club, he can’t be registered but he is training with the Turkish side.
As garnered by BBC, Antalyaspor owe two former players and will only be able to register the former Spurs’ forward upon the payment of their debts.
Perturbed by the situation, the former Everton winger told BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night club that he is confused about his situation.
“I’m stuck in Antalyaspor just training, I don’t know who owns me, I don’t know where my contract is.”
Townsend began his career with Spurs and has spent his entire career in England, playing for 13 different clubs besides Spurs.
He has played 475 games across all competitions in his career and has 56 goals to his credit.
