Leicester City broke their dismal 6-game losing streak in the Premier League tonight with a wonderful performance to thrash visiting Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest 4-0 at the King Power Stadium… Leicester urgently needed to do something to turn around an altogether woeful start to their 2022/2023 Premier league campaign, and tonight’s performance will surely have given hope to their fans that they are capable of doing just that. Both teams came out strong, with advances made into both respective defensive halves - but despite Forest nearly going ahead with Taiwo Awoniyi’s effort coming off the post, it was Leicester City who were far more convincing in their tenacity for goal, with a plethora of chances created to test the Forest defensive collection within the first 20 or so minutes of this Midlands derby. It took 25 minutes of this electric performance for Leicester to put one past Dean Henderson via James Maddison, whose drive from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection off of Scott McKenna to wrong-foot Forest’s goalkeeper and loop into the top of the net. https://twitter.com/i/status/1577017457348419586 True to their desire to get back to old winning ways, Leicester took no time at all in following this first goal up, as Harvey Barnes delivered a spectacular strike from the left-hand edge of the box which curled its way around Henderson’s outstretched fingertips and into the far side bottom corner Forest’s net just 2 minutes later! https://twitter.com/i/status/1577017829810921472 The Foxes were firing on all cylinders at this point and it was clear to all spectating that they could feel their momentum - less than 10 minutes after going 2-0 up from Barnes, James Maddison put his name on the score sheet once more. This time he clearly didn’t want to leave room for anyone crediting his goal to a deflection, as he sunk a MARVELOUS free-kick from the edge of the box, bending it beautifully to clip the inside of the post as it made its way past a planted Dean Henderson at his near post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vlj8DXyC0yg4 The halftime whistle blew at 3-0 - probably a relief to the Forest players who clearly needed to do something to put a stop to Leicester’s dynamic attacks. The second half kept alive most of the same energy as the first, with Leicester having a visible edge over the share of attacking possession, and 51 minutes in Patson Daka added another satisfying finish to Leicester’s tally with a skillful flick from James Maddison’s zipping low cross off the inside of his heel to sneak its way underneath Dean Henderson on his inside post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vP_8PcZg9O9Y Despite this being an obvious final nail in Nottingham Forest's coffin for the evening, both teams continued to seek out goals with some very close calls for the respective goalkeepers, but the night (and the battle for the midlands) would end at 4-0 Leicester.
