Premier League injuries update: Who’s out and for how long?

Whether you’re the manager of a fantasy football squad, or just an avid fan trying to keep up to date with how your team are doing – it’s always good to have the knowledge of who is currently out from injuries in your back pocket.

Currently, there are currently 90 players out with injuries of varying degrees in the English Premier League, with some squads seemingly having far better luck than others when it comes down to how many men they have on this list! 

Below, we provide you with a full update of who’s out and (as far as reports are concerned) how long they are likely to be away for!

Arsenal FC

Mohamed Elneny – Hamstring injury. Ruled out for “months” by manager on 02/09/2022. No return date set.

Emile Smith-Rowe – Groin injury. Pulled up with a groin injury in warm down against Manchester United on 04/09/2022. Reported that he has undergone surgery and is expected to return to training in December.

Oleksandr Zinchenko – Calf injury. Reported by his manager on 21/10/2022 that he was “close” to recovery but couldn’t say whether he would make the match vs Southampton on the 23/10/2022. He was not featured for the match and no update has been given since, though he is expected to return to duty shortly.

Aston Villa FC

Diego Carlos – Achilles injury. Ruptured his achilles tendon against Everton on 13/08/2022 and is set for a long stint on the sidelines with a return date unknown.

Lucas Digne – Heel injury. Suffered the injury playing for France in the September international break. As of 14/10/2022 he is expected to return by the end of October.

Boubacar Kamara – Knee injury. Taken off with a serious knee injury against Southampton on 16/09/2022. Ruled out until after the World Cup.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Adam Lallana – Knock. Brought off at halftime against Man City on the 22/10/2022. Reported that he had a small issue afterwards but is expected to return on the 29/10/2022.

Kaoru Mitoma – Ankle injury. Sidelined since picking up an ankle injury against Brentford on 14/10/2022 and has been spotted wearing protective boots and walking on crutches. His manager said as of 18/10/2022 that he would be out for “another 10-15 days”.

Jakub Moder – Knee injury. Confirmed ACL rupture, picked up in the match against Norwich on 02/04/2022. Reported to be aiming for a return in March.

Joel Veltman – Calf injury. Faces assessment of injury picked up against Man City on 22/10/2022.

AFC Bournemouth 

David Brooks – Hamstring injury. Return date unknown. Picked up the injury in late August and as of 14/10/2022 still not in full training. 

Lloyd Kelly – Ankle injury. Out since missing the Newcastle game on 14/10/2022 and still has no return date.

Brentford FC 

Aaron Hickey – Ankle injury. Twisted his ankle in training and is reported to be out until after the World Cup.

Pontus Jansson – Hamstring injury. Pulled up in the match against Bournemouth on 01/10/2022 and as of 18/10/2022 has been ruled out of World Cup.

Christian Norgaard – Achilles injury. The only reports are that he hopes to return “before November”.

Thomas Strakosha – Ankle injury. Reported on 13/10/2022 that he picked up an ankle ligament injury and would be sidelined until after the World Cup.

Chelsea FC

Wesley Fofana – Knee injury. Taken off against AC Milan on 05/10/2022 and on 14/10/2022 was reported to be expected to miss out on the World Cup.

Reece James – Knee injury. Limped off against AC Milan. Ruled out for 8 weeks as of 16/10/2022.

N’Golo Kante – Hamstring injury. Announced on 18/10/2022 that he had undergone hamstring surgery and would be out for 4 months.

Kalidou Koulibaly – Knee injury. Missed the Manchester United match on 22/10/2022 after feeling pain in the knee. Reported to be near to recovery.

Crystal Palace 

Chris Richards – Hamstring injury. Reported to be “a couple of weeks away” as of 14/10/2022.

James McArthur – Hip injury. Reported on 30/07/2022 that he would be set for a spell on the sidelines. As of 21/10/2022 still no return date set.

Nathan Ferguson – Lack of match fitness. “Progressing well” as of 07/10/2022 after recovering from a foot injury. Trained fully for the first time on 14/10/2022. Will take part in U21’s match before returning to first team.

Nathaniel Clyne – Ankle injury. Stretchered off against Chelsea on 01/10/2022. Still “7-10 days away from return” as of 17/10/2022.

Jack Butland – Lack of match fitness. Picture back in training on 06/10/2022 after suffering a hand injury. Return date is currently unknown.

Everton

Nathan Patterson – Knee injury. Stretchered off in Scotland’s match with Ukraine on 21/09/2022. Ruled out for 4-5 weeks on 28/09/2022. Hoping to set a return for the match against Fulham on 29/10/2022.

Yerry Mina – Calf injury. Suffered a minor calf injury after returning to training from an ankle injury. No closer to a return date as of 21/10/2022.

Ben Godfrey – Leg injury. Fractured his fibula in the match against Chelsea on 06/08/2022 and was ruled out for 3 months. Will return to full training as of 24/10/2022 but may not make a comeback until after the World Cup.

Fulham

Kenny Tete – Muscle injury. Has been doing individual training and team training but remains sidelined as of 14/10/2022. Return date is unknown.

Manor Soloman – Knee injury. Confirmed on 11/08/2022 that he will be out for a long spell on the sidelines. No return date has been set. 

Layvin Kurzawa –  Calf injury. Ruled out of the West Ham game on 09/10/2022 – still no return date set.

Daniel James – Ineligible to face parent club on the 23/10/2022. No return date set.

Leeds United

Pascal Struijk – Knock. Missed the Leicester match on 20/10/2022 but is expected to return imminently.

Leo Fuhr Hjelde – Abdominal injury. Reported on 07/10/2022 that he had undergone an appendectomy and would be out for “a few weeks”. Back in training as of 14/10/2022 but unavailable for selection. He is expected to return to action shortly.

Archie Gray – Toe injury. Fractured his toe in September and will be out for “another couple of weeks” as of 30/09/2022. Back in training as of 14/10/2022 but not available for selection. 

Adam Forshaw – Ankle injury. Twisted ankle ahead of the Aston Villa game on 02/10/2022. Reported on 07/10/2022 that he had undergone a procedure and would be out for about a month. No official return date set.

Stuart Dallas – Leg injury. Stretchered off with a season-ending leg injury on 30/04/2022. Reported on 07/10/2022 that he had undergone another procedure and was still “a couple of months away” from return.

Leicester City

Caglar Soyuncu – Knee injury. As of 18/10/2022 is awaiting the results of a scan on his knee. Return date unknown.

Ricardo Pereira – Achilles injury. Sustained the injury in the match against Sevilla on 31/07/2022 and has been ruled out for “up to 6 months” as of 05/08/2022.

Ndidi – Hamstring injury. Ruled out for “ a few weeks” on 06/10/2022 with a recurring hamstring injury. Set to return at the end of October. 

Jonny Evans – Calf injury. Expected to return at the end of October but it is unsure as to whether he will be able to make their fixture against Wolves.

Ryan Bertrand – Knee injury. Twisted knee in warm up against Man City on 26/12/2021 and ruled out for the season. His manager said on 25/08/2022 that no timeframe had been set for his return.

Liverpool FC

Darwin Nunez – Muscle injury. Set to return at the end of October after reporting that he “felt something” go  against West Ham on 19/10/2022. 

Joel Matip – Calf injury. Klopp said as of 21/10/2022 that he should be able to return for “final two to three games before the World Cup.

Ibrihima Konate – Muscle injury. Ruled out for 10 days after picking up an injury against Rangers on 12/10/2022 and is set to return on the 29/10/2022.

Baby Keita – Muscle injury. Will return to first team training as of 24/10/2022 and will be looking to build match fitness from there. Expected return is 06/11/2022.

Luis Diaz – Knee injury. Taken off with a knee injury against Arsenal on 09/10/2022. Reports suggest he could be out until December.

Arthur – Muscle injury. Assessment continues on muscle injury picked up in training. No return date set. 

Manchester City FC

Kyle Walker – Abdominal injury. Taken off with an abdominal injury against Man United on 02/10/2022. Ruled out “for weeks” by his manager on 05/10/2022 and could be out for the World Cup.

Kalvin Phillips – Shoulder injury. Has undergone surgery for the injury and his manager hopes he will be back for the World Cup. Reported to be “much better” as of 21/10/2022.

Manchester United

Brandon Williams – Unknown injury. Missed the start of the season with an “unknown injury” and continues to be absent as of 30/09/2022. No return date has been set.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Lack of match fitness. Back in training as of 20/10/2022 after 6 weeks out with unspecified injury. Expected to return for 30/10/2022.

Raphael Varane – Muscle injury. Forced off with an injury against Chelsea on 22/10/2022 and requires a scan to understand the extent of the issue. Expected to return for 30/10/2022.

Donny Van de Beek – Muscle injury. Back in individual training as of 07/10/2022 but not involved with the team. Return date is unknown.

Anthony Martial – Back injury. Taken off with a back injury against Everton on 09/10/2022 and has been sidelined since. Expected to return at the end of October.

Harry Maguire – Lack of match fitness. Back in training as of 20/10/2022 after 4 months out with hamstring injury. Return date is expected to be 30/10/2022.

Newcastle United

Allan Saint-Maximin – Hamstring injury. Newcastle playing it safe due to recurring nature of his injury, although his manager said on 18/10/2022 that he should make a return for the World Cup in November.

Matt Ritchie – Calf injury. His manager has said as of 14/10/2022 that he is unsure whether he will be fit for the World Cup.

Javier Manquillo – Lack of match fitness. Back in training as of 21/10/2022 after recovering from an ankle injury. Should be back imminently.

Emil Krafth – Knee injury. Suffered an injury against Tranmere Rovers in the EFL cup on 24/08/2022. Ruled out for 6-9 months.

Alexander Isak – Thigh injury. Confirmed on the 18/10/2022 that he is unlikely to make the World Cup.

Paul Dummett – Calf injury. Reported on 21/10/2022 that he is sidelined with a calf injury. No return date has been set.

Karl Darlow – Ankle injury. In the latter stages of his recovery as of 18/10/2022 and is expected to return at the end of October. 

Nottingham Forest FC

Harry Toffolo – Hamstring injury. Suffered an injury in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion on 18/10/2022 and was “ruled out for a little while” as of 20/10/2022. Return date is unknown. 

Omar Richards – Leg injury. Ruled out for estimated 10 weeks following a hairline fracture to his leg. Still “weeks” away from a return as of 30/09/2022 but is in the final stages of rehab.

Lewis O’Brien – Illness. Expected return is 30/10/2022.

Moussa Niakhate – Muscle injury. Picked up an injury against West Ham on 14/08/2022 and is ruled out for “months” as of 20/08/2022. “Nowhere near” a playing return as of 13/10/2022. Return date unknown. 

Jack Colback – Back injury. Return date is unknown – has been sidelined due to a “niggling” back problem since early September.

Southampton FC

Kyle Walker-Peters – Hamstring injury. Subbed off against Bournemouth on 19/10/2022. His manager has said as of the 19/10/2022 that he will be out for “a long time”. No return date is set.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – Unknown injury. Ineligible to face his parent club on 23/10/2022. Return date is set for the end of October. 

Valentino Livramento – Knee injury. Stretchered-off against Brighton on 24/04/2022. Likely to miss all of 2022.

Armel Bella Kotchap – Shoulder dislocation. Taken off against West Ham on 16/10/2022 with a shoulder dislocation. His manager said on 21/10/2022 that the club may proceed without surgery – but he still faces a spell on the sidelines and has no return date set as of yet.

Tottenham Hotspur

Richarlison – Calf injury. Picked up against Everton on 15/10/2022. Expected to be fit for World Cup and has a return date set for 12/11/2022.

Dejan Kulusevski – Hamstring injury. His manager stated on 21/10/2022 that there has been a setback to his recovery and he may not make the World Cup.

West Ham United

Lucas Paqueta – Shoulder injury. His manager has said he doesn’t have a timeframe for return, with the player himself saying he’d be fit in 2 weeks as of 19/10/2022. Expected return is 06/11/2022.

Nayef Aguerd – Ankle injury. Sustained against Rangers on 17/07/2022 and has since undergone surgery. Expected return is 30/10/2022 with his manager stating that he should “definitely make the World Cup”

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Raul Jiminez – Groin injury. No exact return date set, although it is said that his team are hoping to see his return before the World Cup begins.

Pedro Neto – Ankle injury. Subbed off with an ankle ligament injury against West Ham on 01/10/2022 and has undergone surgery. Ruled out of World Cup.

Sasa Kalajdzic – Knee injury. Suffered against Southampton on 03/09/2022. Has undergone ACL surgery and will be out for around 9 months. Expected return date is early June 2023.

Chiquinho – Knee injury. Injured in a pre-season friendly on 09/07 and underwent surgery. Was originally set for a 6-month spell on the sidelines, but this has been extended to a full year, with an expected return in early June 2023.
