PSG forward Neymar set to MISS rest of season due to ankle injury

Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar is set to miss the rest of this season due to an ankle injury that requires the Brazilian star to undergo surgery.

Neymar was carried off the field during PSG’s 4-3 win over Lille on 19th of February. PSG confirmed that surgery is necessary to avoid a major risk of recurrence and that it will take three to four months before he can resume training.

This is not the first time he has suffered an injury to his right ankle, having missed two matches for Brazil in the 2022 World Cup after taking a knock in their opening group match against Serbia. In 2019, he missed the Copa America after suffering torn ligaments in his the same ankle and he was also out for several weeks in 2021 due to a similar injury.

The 31-year-old’s absence is a significant loss for the French giants, with the forward playing an integral part in the team’s success this season. He has scored 13 goals and supplied 11 assists in Ligue 1.

PSG’s next match is a Champions League round of 16 second leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. They need to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first fixture to progress to the quarter-finals.
