Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Man Utd have agreed to sign Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee who is set to become the club’s first signing under INEOS.
Manchester United have decided not to pay the 23-year-old’s €40m release clause, but will pay a higher fee which will be paid in three years time.
The striker is set to sign a five-year contract with an option for a further year inserted also into the contract, which will be confirmed upon the completion of a medical.
Zirkzee was one of Serie A’s brightest young players last season – scoring 11 goals to help Bologna secure UEFA Champions League football.
AC Milan were also interested in getting his signature, but were unwilling to pay his agent Kia Joorabchian a €15m commission, the result of which paved the way for Manchester United to get into the race.
Erik ten Hag has been in contact with the former Bayern Munich forward in a bid to convince his countryman to move to Old Trafford.
The decision to sign Zirkzee stemmed from Manchester United’s struggle for goals in the 2023/2024 Premier League season, with Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Højlund and other forwards all struggling to deliver in the final third.
The Premier League giants will be hoping Zirkzee will be able to replicate his form with Bologna last season and propel them to great heights in the coming campaign.
