Two brothers, one final whistle – A short poem

Football has lost not only a star but a truly beautiful soul. Diogo Jota, recently married to his childhood sweetheart and a devoted father, tragically passed away alongside his beloved brother, André Silva. This poem is written in honour of their memory, their bond, and the legacy they leave behind — both on and off the pitch.

In boots laced tight with dreams and pride,
He danced where passion would reside.
From Porto’s streets to Anfield’s roar,
A quiet soul we all adored.

With every run and every goal,
He left his mark, he gave his soul.
But more than just a game he played —
A life of love was gently laid.

He’d just said vows, a tender flame,
To his childhood love who shared his name.
Two hearts as one, through joy and tears,
A bond that weathered growing years.

They laughed, they cried, they built a life,
With children blessed and love so rife.
A father’s arms, a husband true,
Gone far too soon — the skies turned blue.

Beside him now, his brother stands,
Together in God’s gentle hands.
Two souls once bound by blood and song,
Now fly as one, where stars belong.

No whistle blows, no final bell,
For those we love, who loved so well.
They live in echoes, wind and light,
In every goal, each star at night.

So hold your dear ones close and tight,
For life can turn from day to night.
But know that love, it does not cease —
They rest above in endless peace.

Forever Red, forever bright,
Two brothers rising into light.
And in our hearts, they’ll always play —
As heroes lost, but not away.

Rest peacefully, Diogo and André.
You’ll never walk alone. ❤️
