Manchester City star Matheus Nunes is set to stand trial after he was allegedly arrested for stealing a phone.
The incident was said to have happened on September 8, but it was just reported by Spanish Paper El Mundo, who detailed it.
Nunes was said to have been at La Riviera nightclub, and he caught someone taking his pictures in the club’s toilets, which led him to snatch the phone away from the person.
Upon reporting to the police, the Portuguese midfielder was arrested in the wee hours of the morning on September 8.
Confirming the incident though not naming the suspect, a spokesman for the National Police in Madrid said:
“I can confirm a Portuguese national was arrested in the early hours of September 8 at a Madrid nightclub on suspicion of stealing another person’s mobile phone.”
The Police didn’t confirm the arrested person to be a Footballer, but details of the suspect showed that it was Nunes, which has now been confirmed by a source close to him.
The 26-year-old is now set to stand trial in court and it remains to be seen how much punishment he will receive if found guilty.
Nunes was in action yesterday when Manchester City thrashed Slovan Bratislava 4-0 on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League.
He arrived from Sporting CP in 2023 and hasn’t established himself as a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side, making just 16 starts for the Citizens across all competitions.
