Graham Potter still earns obscene Chelsea wages despite 2023 sacking!

It has been more than a year since Graham Potter was dismissed as Chelsea manager but surprisingly, he is still on the payroll of the club and earning an obscene amount of money!

According to various reports, Chelsea still pay Potter £200,000 a week and will do so until October this year, which would mean that he received more than £10m since his departure from Stamford Bridge in April 2023.

The West London side, particularly under the BlueCo management, are known for handing out long-term contracts to managers and players, and are paying the consequence of doing so.

Potter signed a five-year contract but was sacked after just seven months, which is the reason behind his still being on their payroll.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Southampton defender replaced Thomas Tuchel at the helm of affairs in September 2022 and was tasked with the responsibility of bringing the best out of the club’s newly assembled youngsters, but failed woefully.

He made his debut as manager in a UEFA Champions League game against Red Bull Salzburg and managed to secure a draw in the tie before going on to beat Crystal Palace in his first Premier League game in charge of the Blues.

However, things went from bad to worse for the England-born tactician when Chelsea were knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round for the first time since 1999, while results in the Premier League didn’t get any better.

He managed just seven wins in the 22 Premier League games that he was in charge, recording the joint-lowest winning ratio of any Chelsea manager to have managed at least 20 games.

It was no surprise that he was axed in April 2023 following another disappointing result against Aston Villa, with one of his assistants Bruno Saltor taking charge of the club until the end of the season.

Graham Potter hasn’t returned to the dugout since leaving Chelsea and is one of the managers that have been linked with the vacant England managerial position.
