Former Manchester United midfielder to spend 30 days behind bars for interesting reason

Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira, known famously as Anderson has been sentenced to prison for his failure to pay child maintenance.

According to GZH via Torcedores.com, the 6th Civil Family Court of Porto Alegre has found the midfielder guilty of owing R$333,600, equivalent to £45,000, to his two children.

He will be remanded at the Irmão Miguel Dário Penal Institute for 30 days, but if there is no vacancy in the detention centre, he will serve his sentence in a semi-open regime.

Were to serve his punishment in a semi-open regime, he would be allowed to leave the prison during the day to work but must return at night to continue his punishment.

However, the former Brazilian midfielder will be granted a reprieve if he can pay his 
£45,000 worth of debt.

Four years ago, Anderson was also a subject of concern in Brazil when he was accused of laundering £4.7million through cryptocurrencies but he has neither been declared guilty nor innocent till today. 

The 36-year-old works as the assistant manager of Turkish club Adana Demirspor, where he last played before his retirement in 2019.

He had a decorated career, most notably with Manchester United, winning four Premier League titles, one Football League Cup, now known as the Carabao Cup, one UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and Community apiece.

He left Old Trafford in 2015, after making 181 appearances, notching nine goals and 20 assists for the club.
