Fan raises critical concern about new Chelsea signing João Félix

A fan has raised a critical concern about new Chelsea signing João Félix who had initially played for the club on loan in the 2022/2023 season.

Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of the Portuguese forward after agreeing to pay  Atlético Madrid up to £46.3m for his services which has also paved the way for Conor Gallagher to join the Spanish side.

In line with the club’s amortisation policy, Félix has signed a six-year contract and he may not be their last signing for this summer as the club is still eyeing a move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

Félix has failed to live up to the hype that saw him win the Golden Boy Award in 2019 as he could not find his feet at Atleti, notching 52 goal involvements in 131 games.

He was on loan at Barcelona last season and started the season brightly before he fizzled out, and mustered 10 goals and six assists in 44 games for the Blaugrana.

This will be his second stint with Chelsea, having spent a six-month loan with the West London side in the second half of the 2022/2023 campaign.

His return has been met with different reactions on social media with a notable one being the comparison with Romelu Lukaku who also rejoined Chelsea in 2021 and has been one of the poorest signings in the club’s history.

Reacting to the announcement of the signing of Félix on X, a fan wrote

“Lukaku came back twice and now, he is a wraith. It’s just a matter of time before this Joao Felix reminds us it is a bad move to go back to your ex”

After failing to produce the goods, Lukaku has been on two separate loan terms and is now on the verge of joining Napoli permanently.

Chelsea fans must be hoping that Félix doesn’t follow in the footsteps of the Belgian striker.
