Brexit tackles – what is the latest TikTok football trend?

What are Brexit tackles? Here we take a look at the meaning and the origins of the new TikTok football trend used by youth footballers all over the UK!

TikTok has given us no shortage of ‘trends’ since its rise to fame in 2017. The latest of these trends when it comes to the world of football is ‘Brexit tackles’ – but what exactly are they?

First of all, for those of you who were didn’t know, or simply weren’t interested before, what is Brexit?

‘Brexit’ is the term coined by UK newspapers for the departure of England from the European Union, back in early 2020.

It is formed from the words ‘Britain’ and ‘Exit’ by journalists who clearly thought that the whole Government debacle was worth creating a brand new phrase over, and has finally seeped its way into the vocabulary of young footballers across the United Kingdom.

How to do ‘Brexit tackles’…

So, the first question you’re probably wondering is what do Brexit tackles involve?

And the answer to this particular question highlights the acute political perception of the younger generation of football-mad kids in this country.

In their most simple form, Brexit tackles are challenges in which player takes all of the opposition and nothing of the football. It also typically involves shooting the phrase “Brexit means Brexit!” before your tackle lands.

Brexit tackles involve taking all of the player and none of the ball.

Football content creator on TikTok, Kalan Lisbie has given kids specific instructions on how to best deploy Brexit tackles in the field…

Kalan said “the first thing you need to do is pretend like you’re going to boot the ball away and not tackle. Second thing is that you want to rotate those hips and as soon as you rotate, you want to take absolutely everything … and then just clean him”.

The new tackle was invented by kids as a way to hold a mirror up to the lunacy of the original Brexit debacle – the tackle achieves nothing it is supposed to, but subsequently harms the player.

This, paired with the screaming of the “Brexit means Brexit!” phrase, is an obvious jab at the unorganised and harmful repercussions of the Brexit media circus that gripped the tabloids in 2020.

The fact that the newly coined term “Brexit” has found its way into kids football also highlights the childish idiocracy of the rushed vote brought on by claims of an improved, independent UK that were never achieved.

England leaving the EU was the creative spark for the creation of Brexit tackles.

So there you have it, the TikTok trend that is being deployed by football-mad kids all over the UK, used as a mirror held up against the often childish stupidity of adult politics.

Our only concern here at Football Post is that Brexit tackles could well make for a far more dangerous youth game across the country!
