WATCH: Netherlands v Argentina World Cup semi-final SHOOTOUT

When it comes to World Cup classics, Netherlands and Argentina have always provided us with sheer entertainment.

From the likes of Dennis Bergkamp to Patrick Kluivert, this clash has provided us with some fond memories.

Unfortunately, as of late, the clashes between the pair have been somewhat dismal and uninspiring.

In 2006, the pair faced each other in the group stage which ended in a 0-0 draw as both sides reached the knockout stages prior to the match.

8 years later in 2014, Argentina meet the Netherlands in the Semi-finals of the World Cup both hoping to make the final.

The match did not live up to the hype, in fact, it was considered to be one of the most boring matches of the World Cup with minimal chances and broken-down gameplay.

The game finished 0-0 therefore went to a penalty shootout to decide who makes the final in Brazil.

Louis Van Gaal brought on his substitute goalkeeper, Tim Krul for the quarter-final shootout where he proved to be a hero, unfortunately, he did not have enough subs left after using them all up before penalties.

Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved penalties from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder which meant Maxi Rodriguez was able to send Argentina through to the final.

The pair will meet today with both teams looking to book a place in the World Cup Semi-final.
