WATCH: Newcastle dominate 10-man Fulham in 4-1 battering!

Newcastle United had a great away day at the office when they dispatched Fulham 4-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday…

Things didn’t begin well for the home side when just 8 minutes in Nathaniel Chalobah was shown a straight red card for a horror tackle on Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff. The referee initially gave a yellow card for the challenge however, upon closer inspection of the VAR he turned heel and gave Chalobah his marching orders!

It only took a further 8 minutes of play for Fulham to have another of their squad in the referee’s pocketbook, when Aleksandar Mitrovic was shown a yellow card 12 minutes into the game – but not before Newcastle opened their scoring with a Callum Wilson goal at 11 minutes in!

Wilson touched in a header from Joe Wilcock, which in itself had come as a result of a Kieran Trippier ball into the box.

The remaining 33 minutes of the first half were no kinder to the London side, as goals from Miguel Almiron and the earlier crocked Sean Longstaff at 33 and 43 minutes in sent Newcastle sauntering back to the changing rooms with a 3-0 half-time lead.

Almiron’s goal deserves particular praise, with some stating that it may well already be “goal of the month” for October – being scored on just the first day of the month!

It started with a one-two between Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes, with Guimaraes sending a lovely, cheeky chip over Fulham defenders into the box, where Almiron met it and delivered a world-class left foot volley to bend the ball around Bernd Leno and into the German’s top corner.

Sean Longstaff then delivered Newcastle’s 3rd goal of the half, drilling the ball into the bottom of the net from the edge of the 6-yard box after a wonderful looping header from Sven Botman deflected off of the post into his path.

With the second half kicked off, it took just 9 minutes for Fulham to have another of their names in the referee’s book, when Harrison Reid was shown a yellow card for a poorly-timed challenge.

In typical form for this particular afternoon, Newcastle took just 3 additional minutes from Reid’s yellow card incident to secure yet another goal to put them 4-0 up again from Miguel Almiron, who slotted the ball into the roof of the net from within the 6 yard box as he got on the end of a zipping pass across goal from Joe Willock.

With 57 minutes played and a 4-0 scoreline, all looked very bleak for the 10-man squad of Fulham – so it did come as a surprise when in the 88th minute the London side put away a rather sweet consolation goal. A looping ball into the box from Bobby Reid expertly found its way into the path of Neeskens Kebano, who beat a rushing goalkeeper to the punch to nod the ball down into the bottom corner of the Newcastle goal.

It was enough to remind Fulham fans that their team are capable of finding the back of the net, yet not enough to rescue what could only be described as a rather dire afternoon for the team.
