Manchester City DENY Cristiano Ronaldo deal was ‘close’

Manchester City have DENIED Cristiano Ronaldo’s account of his proposed move to the Etihad Stadium according to Rob Dawson (ESPN).

This comes after Ronaldo claimed he was very close to joining Premier League champions Man City before ‘following his heart’ and making the move to neighbours Manchester United.

Ronaldo apparently had a change of heart after former manager Sir Alex Ferguson convinced him to come back to Man United.

The Portuguese forward has been speaking out against his current club, laying into former teammates such as Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney.

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, he has had a poor second season at the Red Devils, only scoring 1 Premier League goal which came against Everton at Goodison Park.

Piers Morgan will reveal the full 90-minute interview tonight which is set to cause huge controversy.

Ronaldo’s key statements from the interview

“I love Manchester United, I love the fans, they’re always on my side. But if they want to do it different… they have to change many, many things.”

He also said: “As Picasso said, you have to destroy it to rebuild it (the artist’s exact quote was: ‘Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.’) and if they start with me, for me, it’s not a problem.

“He knows. Everyone knows. The people who don’t see that… it’s because they don’t want to see; they are blind.”

“The fans for me are everything. This is why I give this interview, because I think it’s the right time to speak my mind.”

United manager Erik ten Hag says this behaviour is unacceptable and punishment is necessary, the club have also fined him £1m for taking part in the interview.

The bookmakers have Ronaldo favourites to sign for his boyhood club, Sporting CP with Premier League giants Chelsea in second place.
