MORE often than not aspiring young footballers put their schooling second. The allure of big money contracts in the professional game distracts their focus.
But for these select few who made it to the top, they did so without letting their studies slip. They have achieved a unique balance of intelligence both on and off the football pitch.
Typically footballers are more famous for drinking, gambling and womanising than obtaining a world-class education. However, these educated few are exceptions to the rule. They were able to complete university degrees alongside their football careers.

10. Giorgio Chiellini
The tough-tackling Italian defender completed high school with a full set of grades. He later graduated with a degree in Business Economics from the University of Turin, scoring 109 out of a possible 110 marks on his thesis – an analysis of Juventus’s balance sheets.
